Hydra Launcher for Your Game Library
If your games are spread across Steam, Epic, standalone installers, and old folders on a second drive, you end up hunting for them. Hydra is a free, open-source launcher that pulls games you own into one library: you point it at a game on your PC, and it launches it, tracks your playtime, and shows achievements and what you are playing on your profile.
The pick
Download the Windows installer from the releases page and run it. SmartScreen may warn about the installer — click More info and then Run anyway. Once it is open, add a game from your library by pointing Hydra at the game's .exe file. It is useful for games that no store launcher tracks, like DRM-free installers from GOG or itch.io.
The catch: Hydra is also widely used with community "download sources" that link to pirated games. This guide does not cover them. Pirated installers are the most common way malware reaches gaming PCs, and games pulled that way do not get updates or online play. The cloud-save feature, Hydra Cloud, is a paid subscription.
Hydra does not replace Steam or Epic — games bought there still need their own launcher running to start. Treat Hydra as the one place you browse and start everything from.
What to avoid
- Hydra downloads from anywhere but its GitHub releases or hydralauncher.gg. Repackaged copies of the launcher on download sites are a known way to bundle malware.
- Adding download sources shared in Discord servers or forums. Anything added this way can download and run installers on your PC with no review.
